Frontier bringing international flights to Trenton-Mercer
Frontier Airlines is expected to begin flights to Nassau, Bahamas from its focus city at Trenton-Mercer Airport this November.
Mercer County executive Brian Hughes announced Frontier’s newest route to the region last week.
“The Mercer county region continues to perform for Frontier, and the addition of service to the Bahamas further raises Trenton-Mercer Airport’s profile as a great small airport that frees travelers from the headaches often seen at surrounding metropolitan airports,” according to Hughes. “We’re excited that for the first time in our long history, Trenton-Mercer Airport will host a commercial airline that offers direct flights to an island resort, and we’re optimistic that this is a sign of future growth.”
Frontier is currently the only airline offering scheduled passenger service at Trenton-Mercer. The ultra low-cost carrier has rapidly grown operations at the New Jersey airport since launching flights in November 2012.
Two weeks ago, Frontier announced it would add flights to West Palm Beach from Trenton.
The new Bahamas route, the 19th from Trenton, will be Trenton’s first regularly scheduled international flight. Passengers departing Nassau will be able to pass U.S. customs at Nassau’s preclearance security facility.
Flights to Nassau will begin November 20, and will operate on Thursdays and Sundays on Frontier’s 138-seat Airbus A319. The bi-weekly flights will depart Trenton at 11:45AM, with the return flight leaving Nassau at 3:30PM local time.
