American could cut 13,000 jobs as part of restructuring

American Airlines is expected to announce today that it may cut up to ten percent of its workforce, or 13,000 jobs as it continues to operate under bankruptcy.

NBC 5 Dallas is reporting that a meeting is being held at the struggling airline’s Fort Worth headquarters, and that negotiations are under way with its unions to find cost-cutting measures.

According to the report 1,000 of the jobs to be cut will come from American’s maintenance base at Alliance Airport in north Fort Worth.

According to Bloomberg, American employes around 74,000 full- and part-time workers plus 14,000 at its regional afffiliate American Eagle.

On Tuesday, American announced it lost over $900 million in the month of December.
