Denver has new #2 airline

By Michael Garko, In Airline News Southwest’s continued growth at Denver International Airport has made it the new number two airline in marketshare.  Southwest reportedly passed based Frontier Airlines near the end of 2010, as has pulled away ever since.

Air Canada phasing out “Jazz” branding

By Michael Garko, In Airline News Air Canada is eliminating the Jazz brand  in favor of an Air Canada express moniker for its regional flights.  Rollout is expected to launch May 1 on its new Toronto Island route.

Hawaiian records first-quarter profit

By Michael Garko, In Airline News Hawaiian Airlines reported today that it managed a $855,000 profit in the first three months of 2011.  The number is an increase from a $216,000 profit during the same period last year.

Air France 447 flight data recorder found

By Michael Garko, In Airline News According to French investigators, the chasis of the flight data recorder from Air France flight 447 has been found.  Reportedly, the memory unit that contains the data is missing.

US Justice Dept won’t oppose Southwest/AirTran merger

By Michael Garko, In Airline News Southwest CEO Gary Kelly’s hopes of completing his airline’s merger with AirTran by May 2nd appear to have been made possible today as the United States Justice Department stated that they would not oppose the merger.

Southwest plane slides off of Midway runway

By: Michael Garko, In Airline News Southwest Airlines flight 1313, a Boeing 737-700, slid off of runway 13 center at Chicago’s Midway Airport  early Tuesday afternoon.  It was then reported stuck on the mud near the end of the runway according to the Chicago Tribune.

US Airways reports $114 million loss

Crossing newswires now, the Associate Press writes: US Airways says its first-quarter loss more than doubled to $114 million as fuel prices rose sharply.

Shreveport Regional Airport loses out on $700,000 grant
